Making images is a way of being in conversation with the creative part of myself that needs to be given a voice. Concentrating on the sheer process of creating, I come into relationship with the medium itself, building a container for the images to flow through. My painting becomes a bridge to the part of myself that speaks in metaphor. Imagination is embodied through the physicality of material and process.

Making art is also a conscious exploration of the relationship between opposites. It creates a playing field for contradictory ideas and energies to dance in uninhibited expression. I perceive the art work to be an act of creative tension, like rubbing two sticks together to make a fire. The process is a way of transmuting the tension into creative action.

By giving myself to the painting through focus and concentration, the painting reveals itself. The process is dedicated to the spontaneity and immediacy of perception's momentary unfolding, and the hope that through both surrender and active participation we can come alive to that conscious experience.
